SUSTAINABLE IMPACT: OUR ONGOING ENVIRONMENTAL EFFORTS

Our Commitment to Sustainability: Planting Trees for a Greener Tomorrow

Our commitment to sustainability goes beyond being carbon neutral. In addition to offsetting our annual carbon output, we plant a tree for every client we work with. Each tree has the potential to sequester up to a quarter tonne of CO2 over its lifetime, equivalent to offsetting 1,200 miles driven in a petrol car. This assumes that car is petrol and achieves the UK’s average miles per gallon (MPC) as of 2020. We’ve now partnered with Ecologi, to not only plant trees but also invest in carbon avoidance projects, reforestation, habitat protection and contribute to beach clean-ups. Low Carbon Living

Here are a few ways you can help reduce your carbon footprint (and save a little money):

– Insulate Your Home! Insulate any exposed hot water pipes, along with your hot water cylinder. Insulating the building itself will make a bigger difference, making your home warmer in winter, as well as lowering your energy bills and cutting your carbon emissions.– Low Energy Lighting! If you replace all the bulbs in your home with LED lights, you could reduce your carbon emissions by up to 65kg a year. This is equivalent to the carbon emitted by driving your car around 220 miles. – Low Carbon Travel! You can reduce your carbon emissions by walking or cycling, where possible. If you do need to drive, consider switching to an electric car. – Food For Thought! Food that’s grown locally and in season will travel fewer ‘food miles’ before it makes it to your plate. Throwing away less food makes economic, as well as environmental sense.

– Turn your thermostat down by 1 degree (this could save you up to £60 per year)

– Fill your kettle with the amount of water you need ( this could also save you £8 per year)

– Remove any dust from the back of your fridge (this will help keep them running efficiently)

– LOVE LOVE LOVE Second-Hand! This could be as simple as buying secondhand clothes, or giving something old a new lease of life.

– Check The Label! Look for clothing made from recycled fabric/materials or powering factories from renewable energy sources.

– Donate To Charities! Don’t throw away your old/unwanted items. Give them to charity for a new lease of life.

– Sustainabili-TEA! If you grab a drink on your commute, buying a reusable cup or travel mug will help cut back your waste and become eco-friendly.

– Eat Greener! 20% of the UKs Carbon Emissions are from the food industry, try eating 1 meal a week meat free. Not only does this help the planet but could also save you some money on your food shop.

Our Projects

Take a look at some of the projects we help fund:

Country: Sierra Leone | Type: Carbon offsetting

Kono District Is largely rural, with many existing safe water sources that have fallen into disrepair due to poor management programmes and high costs. Households either consume dirty water as they lack the means for purification, regularly suffering from water-related illnesses, or purify it on highly inefficient three-stone fires fuelled by firewood releasing GHG emissions.

Communities typically use wood fuel on inefficient open fires to purify drinking, cleaning, and washing water collected from unclean sources. This process results in the release of GHG emissions from the combustion of wood. These emissions can be avoided if clean water sources are in working order, removing the need to purify the water.

Benefits:
Provision of safe clean drinking water.
The reduction in illness linked to drinking unsafe water.
Regular WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene) training/workshops with the local community.

Reduction of animal and human conflict as people no longer have to collect water from “drinking holes” used by animals.
Local employment within the project areas through regular borehole maintenance work.

Country: El Salvador | Type: Carbon offsetting

The LaGeo Project is an extension of the Berlin Geothermal Power Plant through the drilling of additional geothermal wells. The Project exploits the resource of the Berlin Geothermal Field characterised by a depth between 1,000 and 1,500m, a temperature in the range of 280 to 300 °C, 115 bar pressure, and good rock permeability. Reservoir dimensions and characteristics are enough to sustain a 44 MW power plant for the entire life of the project, with an expected field depletion of about 1% per year.

Further information about this project can be found in the PDD and documents associated, which are available on UNFCCC website.

Benefits:
The use of an indigenous and cleaner source of electricity will contribute to environmental sustainability.

Avoid electricity generation from imported fossil fuel sources.

Reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases.
Better income distribution in the region where the LaGeo Project is carried out will come from less expenditure and more income in local municipalities.

Economical and/or strategic benefits include the decrease in dependence on fossil fuels, an exogenous and environmentally unsustainable source of energy.

The LaGeo Project includes a biodiversity inventory research project to be done by the National University of El Salvador and a conservation and reforestation program in areas surrounding the plant.

Country: Indonesia | Type: Carbon offsetting Asahan 1 Hydroelectric Power Plant 2 x 90 MW Project, developed by PT Bajradaya Sentranusa, is a run-off-river hydroelectric power project in North Sumatera Province in Indonesia. The project uses the existing flow of the Asahan River to produce electricity and it has no large-scale dam or reservoir built for the project, as it is a run-of-river hydroelectric power plant. The project is taking advantage of the Asahan River flow that receives water from its natural source, Lake Toba. Geographically, the Project is located downstream of Lake Toba and upstream of the existing Asahan 2 (Siguragura) hydroelectric power plant, a large dam power plant built in 19811. Benefits: Supply zero-emission energy to Sumatera Grid, a grid with a relatively carbon-intensive electricity supply. Reduce emissions of greenhouse gases by an estimated 945,875 tCO2e per year during the first crediting period and 1,021,075 during the second crediting period..
